How to create and share basemaps in ArcGIS Enterprise

Step 1: Open Map Viewer

1. Sign In: Start by signing in to your ArcGIS Enterprise portal.

2. Navigate: Open the Map Viewer by clicking on the Open in Map Viewer link in the main menu.

Step 2: Use an Existing Basemap

1. Access Basemap Gallery: Click the Basemap button on the Contents toolbar to access the basemap gallery.

2. Select Basemap: Choose a basemap from the gallery that best suits your needs.

3. Adjust Extent: Zoom in or out to set the initial extent of the basemap to the desired area.

4. Save Map: Save the map by clicking on the Save button. Provide a title, tags, and a summary to describe the map. Choose the folder where you want to save it, and click Save again.

Step 3: Use a Custom Map Service as a Basemap

• Add Layer: Click on the Add (+) button and select Add layer from URL from the drop-down menu.

• Click on Tile Layer: After Selecting the Tile Layer option a Layer Details popup will appear.

• Enter URL: Type or paste the map service's URL into the provided text box.

• Select Service Type: If necessary, choose either From the Type drop-down list, choose the appropriate service type (e.g., ArcGIS Server web service, WMS, WMTS).

• Set as Basemap: Turn on the Use as basemap toggle button to set the added layer as a basemap.

• Confirm: Click the Use as basemap button to apply the changes.

• Save Map: Save the map by clicking on the Save and open button and then Save as. Provide a title, tags, and a summary. Choose the appropriate folder and click Save. 

• View: After saving the web map you can view at particular location

Step 4: Share the Map

1. Open Share Options: To share the map immediately after saving, click on the Share button on the Contents toolbar.

2. Select Sharing Level: Choose the sharing level, such as sharing with your organization or making it public.

3. Edit Group Sharing: Click on Edit group sharing to share the map with the designated basemap gallery group.

4. Confirm Sharing: Click Save to apply the sharing settings.

5. Bulk Sharing: To share multiple maps, go to the My Content tab on the content page. Check the boxes next to the web maps you want to share, click Share, and follow the same sharing steps.
